Women around the world are on an eternal quest to find the best trick, hack, or fix to get clear, glowing, wrinkle-free, and healthy skin. I was inspired to write this blog today after I met a friend of mine for lunch, who had the most beautiful skin I had seen in a very long time and that too without a bit of makeup.
Since most of us are not so lucky as to have such luminescent skin naturally, we have to resort to all kinds of hacks and tricks in the hopes of making our skin look good, and that includes both natural and artificial remedies.
The beauty market is saturated with products that promise you clear and glowing skin. But, more often than not, both the product and its price narrows down your options. Each and every woman I know of desires clear, firm, and glowing skin and after extensive research, I have come to the conclusion that you do not have to shell out tons of money to look your best.
So, let’s find out how to get clear, beautiful skin without burning a hole in your pocket.
5 Essential Skin Care Tips for All Women
Detoxify:
Did you know that our skin is the largest organ of our body? So, when we have toxin inside our body, it affects the skin and damages it from within. So, to get a beautiful face, we have to first cleanse the insides of our body. You might be wondering how to detoxify our body when we don’t get time to eat properly in our busy day-to-day schedules. That is where lies the magic. I discovered that detoxification is an ongoing process and can be carried out by changing our lifestyle one thing at a time. So here are some pointers on how to detoxify our body through the little things that we do every day.
- Drink hot water with lemon on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning
- Mix collagen powder into your morning smoothie and avoid caffeine as much as possible
- Try to bring a homemade lunch to your office and void eating fast food as much as possible
- Exercise daily
- Take probiotic supplements
- Drink lots of water
- Try to opt for a plant-based diet
When I started my own detoxification process, I experienced temporary skin irritation and acne breakouts. However, as soon as my body adjusted to the changes, the issues were resolved quickly and the texture of my skin changed, showing the results of detoxification.
Use Sunscreen:
One of the most important skin care tips is to protect it from the sun. Incessant sun exposure can cause age spots, wrinkles, and various other skin problems. It also increases the risk of skin cancer. So, it’s best to invest in a high-quality sunscreen that suits your skin type and apply it all year round.
My skin is very, very oily. So, I prefer using a water-based sunscreen with at least 50+UVA protection with a 5 or 4-star rating during the summers. However, in the winters I switch over to a cream-based moisturizer to cope with the dry weather. Yes, it is important to wear sunscreen even during the winters.
Apart from sunscreen, wear long sleeved tops and shirts to work and long pants for maximum sun protection. I find adding laundry additives that offer ultraviolet protection to the clothes to be a major advantage when going out in the summer heat. These additives block off ultraviolet rays and keep your skin from getting burned.
Nourish Your Skin:
Skin care starts with what we eat. The result of unhealthy food habits starts showing first on our skin. Eating processed, toxic, chemical-laden food directly impacts our skin, leaving it dry, dull, and flaky. I am a living example of this. Since I graduated college and started working full time, my lunch was mostly processed, oily, fast food and take outs.
Soon, my already acne prone skin became a breeding ground for constant infestation. There was not a single day when my skin was free from acne breakouts. I tried many acne targeted beauty products to deal with these issues but to no avail. After some time, I realized that the problem was not on the outside but inside my body. So, I started changing my food habits and incorporated the following to get healthy, nourished the skin.
- Opting for a plant-based diet including nuts and seeds
- Opting for plant-based protein rather than animal protein
- Eating food across a wide color spectrum
- Eliminating refined sugar
- Replacing morning caffeine with smoothies
- Eating plant-based foods which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids like walnuts and chia seeds
Treating the Skin Gently:
While cleansing is necessary, overdoing it might ruin our skin. Same with shaving. That’s what I discovered on my quest for beautiful skin. So, I decided to keep the cleaning routine as gentle as possible by trying out the following skin care tips.
- Limiting Bath Time:
Long showers in hot water remove essential oils from our skin, leaving it dry and flaky. So, I took quick showers in warm water to preserve some of those oils required for supple and healthy skin.
- Replacing Strong Soaps with Gentle Ones:
Strong soaps are harsh on our skin and can cause it to become dry and dull. So, choose mild cleansers instead of strong soaps.
- Pat Dry:
After showering I used to rub my skin dry instead of patting it dry. Rubbing the skin dry can take away moisture from the body, causing dullness and dryness in the skin.
Stay Hydrated:
Nothing cleanses our body more than water. So, staying hydrated is important for healthy glowing skin. Here are some of the goals you can set every day when it comes to keeping your body hydrated.
- Drink at least 2-liters or 8-ounces of water every day
- Drink green smoothies mixed with natural collagen powder. Try to go for organic fruits and vegetables while making these smoothies
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine. These make our body dehydrated
- Eat loads of raw fruits that contain water of their own like watermelon and cucumber.
In Conclusion:
